SOCIAL LIFE ON THE BUSES
Social life can be a bit hard due to the nature of the job, but none the less, the various depots do have their social clubs. Since I started driving buses in Dunfermline, I have always been a member of our social club. Our social club presents many events throughout the year. We have our annual events such as the summer and winter dances (always popular events), the kids Christmas party and the summer picnic outing. It also caters for the golfers and the anglers within the depot as well as providing retirement gifts etc. It provides subsidised equiptment for the various drivers areas in the form of vending machines and up until recently, a pool table. This has gone at present due to the bus station situation in Dunfermline.
Any new members of staff are given the chance to join the social club when they start. Contributions are taken weekly from their pay.
I can always recall the large building that existed at Dunfermline when I started. This was where the billiard tables etc were once housed. It was situated on the corner of the workshops, but was out of use for some time before it was demolished.
The staff always have other occasions for getting together - usually a stag night, and usually a Saturday. At present, a few of the lads go 'paint balling'. Maybe their way of letting off steam.
The idea I have had of creating a preservation group, is not a new one either. When I first bought the subject up, I was told that one had existed years ago. I know there are groups within the other garages that own buses, so why not at Dunfermline?
