FIFE'S BUS STATIONS
A selection of photographs (when available) of the different bus stations that have been in operation in Fife at one time or another. Any photographic, or informal, contributions for this section would be most welcome.
DUNFERMLINE - CARNEGIE STREET (UPPER STANCE) - NOW CLOSED
The 'Upper' stance served the local inter-urban areas to the North, East and West of Dunfermline. This bus station closed when the Market Street bus station opened. Many people can still remember the old stance cafe - a modest little wooden structure - that served the bus station. Now used as a car park and extended access to Dunfermline Fire Station.

A 'Head-on' view of a couple of the stances and the typical bus
services they provided.
DUNFERMLINE - JAMES STREET (FOR TOWN SERVICES) - 1
James Street had 6 stances for town services with 3 stances on each side. The North side served buses travelling to the Northern local areas, and the South side obviously served Southern areas, Abbeyview being the main area. James Street became, albeit temporarily, the main bus station for Dunfermline when Market Street closed, and before the present Queen Anne Street bus station opened. The area was remodelled when the main terminus at Queen Anne Street was opened.
This view was taken from the East of the car park in James
Street.

DUNFERMLINE - ST. MARGARET'S STREET (LOWER STANCE) - NOW CLOSED
The 'Lower' stance was the main terminus for buses serving areas to the South of Dunfermline.
A car park now sits on the site of the former Lower stance.
DUNFERMLINE - MARKET STREET - NOW CLOSED
This bus station opened when the centre of Dunfermline was being revamped. It was basically an extension of the Kingsgate shopping centre. Although the concourse was a nice and open plan for bus movements, for passengers, it was always a cold and dark place. (It was a Northern facing station and got no sunlight at all). It offered little or no safety for vulnerable passengers, and on occasion, staff, at night time.

DUNFERMLINE - QUEEN ANNE STREET
The present bus Station in Dunfermline. In my opinion, the siting of this bus station was rushed through - with a bit of cash help from Debenhams. Not a popular bus station with a lot of people. In my opinion, the old Carnegie Street area could have been used, especially as the Fire Station is to be re-sited to the South of the town.

A fantastic photograph showing the bus station area BEFORE the
bus station was built.

KIRKCALDY - ESPLANADE - NOW CLOSED
KIRKCALDY - 1
The bus station serving the centre of Kirkcaldy has not really changed too much. To the present day, the bus station has had a couple of facelifts and is still an easy station to get in and out of.

LEVEN - PARKHILL - NOW CLOSED
A housing estate / car park now sits on the site of the former
